About Katie Darban
Katie Darban is an economist-turned-educator who has called the DC area home for nearly twenty years. After a 15-year career in federal policy analysis, she discovered her second calling through education—first while observing tutoring sessions and enrichment classes led by fellow Amore educator Mostafa Darban (also known as Katie’s husband, or “Mr. Mo!”).
Since 2024, Katie has volunteered weekly in Mr. Mo’s 3rd and 4th grade math classes at Horace Mann Elementary, where her high-energy, joyful teaching style quickly made her a favorite among students. Through this experience, she was introduced to the Amore community and began subbing for enrichment classes. What started as support soon became a passion, and Katie officially joined the Amore family—following a path she had already fallen in love with.
Katie is known for her bubbly, animated presence, her intuitive connection with children, and her ability to create fun, confidence-boosting learning environments. She has co-taught 3rd and 4th grade math, supported multiple Amore enrichment programs, and now teaches after-school enrichment classes. Students gravitate toward her, trust her deeply, and thrive in the warm, joyful, and nurturing spaces she creates.
Katie cares deeply about girls’ confidence and emotional well-being. With a background in women’s issues and social work—and as a woman in STEM herself—she is passionate about supporting girls and families as they navigate academics, friendships, social media, and evolving gender dynamics. Helping girls build strong self-esteem and a sense of belonging is one of the great joys of her life.
In her free time, Katie can usually be found reading, learning new languages, or spending time with her family, including frequent trips to Manhattan and La Jolla, California. She is a devoted dog lover, an enthusiastic baker, and a lifelong creative who enjoys piano, singing, sewing, and knitting.
