About Karen Lawrence-Thomas
Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Karen has lived and worked in the DMV for nearly two decades. The work she has enjoyed the most has been with children—from tutoring to substitute teaching, to using puppetry, and teaching improv and playwriting. She enjoys helping children learn as well as learning from them.
Karen has a Bachelor of Arts in English and is a graduate of Theatre Lab's 2020 Conservatory. She has tutored with Heads Up DC and Reading Partners, led a film workshop for incarcerated male youth through Theatre Lab's Life Stories Program, and taught a playwriting and improv class through Canady Foundation for the Arts. She has also subbed at Beauvoir Elementary School.
Her ideal student is one who is curious, asks questions, loves to learn and take things apart to figure out how they work. She also love when students aren't afraid to get silly!
Karen enjoys spending time with her kids, exploring new places, and watching them learn something new. She also love the theatre—attending plays, performing, and writing plays. Karen enjoy taking walks outside and enjoying nature.
