About Bita Payesteh
Bita is a bilingual speech-language pathologist (SLP) and former professor who is passionate about educating and empowering children to be able to communicate in ways that are accessible and appropriate for them. She also enjoys working with caregivers in supporting their children’s communication needs and has experience in working with bilingual/bicultural families.
Bita has her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences. She spent nearly a decade as a professor and clinical educator at a university. During that time, she developed and taught courses on assessment and intervention of language disorders in children, and working with culturally and linguistically diverse clients. Bita supervised university clinic students learning to develop and conduct speech therapy sessions. Additionally, she has worked as an SLP in early childhood education, elementary schools, and high schools.
Bita believes that communication is a universal right; she strives to create a culturally responsive and inclusive space tailored for each child. Bita utilizes evidence-based practices in her work on language and communication. She understands the power of play with younger children and is committed to supporting literacy in children of all ages, including counseling families on the positive relationship between early literacy and language development. Bita also advocates for children having access to their family and heritage language(s), and works to disseminate research on bilingualism for families and professionals.
Bita loves spending time outdoors and with her two children, spouse, and dog. She loves playing the piano, reading, having long conversations (she is an SLP, after all!), and going on walks through Rock Creek Park with her sister and friends.
