About Andrea Chafetz
Andrea’s goal as an English teacher and instructional aide has always been to make learning a joyful, smile-filled experience. She is passionate about creating an environment where children can bravely and happily explore writing through engaging prompts and open, thoughtful conversations. Because writing can feel intimidating, Andrea focuses on offering a quiet, comfortable space where students can simply “write away.”
With a Master’s in Education, a degree in English, and ten years of experience teaching English in Montgomery County Public Schools, Andrea brings both a strong foundation in writing instruction and a deep commitment to helping young writers find freedom, creativity, and joy in self-expression.
She encourages students to take ownership of their work by choosing their own topics, developing their unique voices, and writing without being overly concerned about conventions. Her philosophy centers on giving children choice, fostering confidence, and making writing a source of pleasure rather than pressure.
Being with children brings Andrea tremendous joy. Their curiosity, energy, and candidness—whether on the playground, in the classroom, or at home—fill her with optimism for the future. Outside of teaching, Andrea loves exploring “off-highway” life, both literally and figuratively, and sharing her reflections through poetry, letters, and conversations.
