About Ana Townsend
Born in El Salvador, Ana grew up in Guatemala and attended University in Guatemala City where she studied interior design. After graduating and moving back to El Salvador, Ana's faith led her to join a church in San Salvador where she got very involved in the youth ministry. Her passion and joy for teaching kids and serving in the community continued when she met her American husband in San Salvador and moved to DC in 2001.
As a mom to three daughters who were born and raised on Capitol Hill, Ana became very involved in the neighborhood schools and first began teaching Spanish formally to elementary-age kids at the Capitol Hill Learning Group (CHLG). She built on that experience to create a Spanish enrichment camp for early-childhood & elementary school-aged kids that focused on bringing Spanish language and culture to life. Ana has also enjoyed working with the Spanish teacher as a volunteer and supporting the Spanish program at Brent Elementary School, both inside and out of the classroom.
Ana strives to teach Spanish in a way that brings to life the cultures, countries and communities behind the language. She uses her creative skills to incorporate art, music, geography, and daily living to create an awareness and appreciation of the language and the people that speak it.
She uses her creativity for teaching as well as for real estate and flower arrangements. Ana works with her husband in their real estate sales business to provide staging/interior design services. She enjoys creating flower arrangements and pieces for weddings, events and home decor.
