Service Description

In this joyful and imaginative class, young artists will explore the magic of picture books through the eyes of an illustrator! Children will learn how pictures help tell a story, express feelings, and bring words to life. From collage to watercolor, line drawing to mixed media, students will experiment with a variety of art techniques while developing their own visual storytelling voice. We’ll look closely at the work of beloved illustrators like Eric Carle, Christian Robinson, and Mo Willems—then try making art in their styles! By the end of the session, each child will have created a mini portfolio of illustrated pages and one original storybook to take home and treasure. The cost of this course includes a $35 per student fee charged by DCPS to use classroom space for the semester. It also includes materials (and heaps of fun!).
