Service Description
Calling all curious kids! In this class taught by Murch teacher Will Verdeur, students become real-life reporters as they learn how news gets made. They’ll practice the basics of journalism—reporting the 5 Ws, writing catchy headlines, and conducting interviews—all while exploring print and digital news. Students will write stories, share opinions, add drawings, and help design a school newspaper from start to finish. Whether they love writing, taking photos, drawing cartoons, covering sports, or helping design the page, every student gets a chance to shine and try something new. By the end of the class, students will see their ideas come to life and learn how to tell true stories about their school and the world around them. The cost of this course includes a $35 per student fee charged by DCPS to use classroom space for the semester. It also includes materials (and heaps of fun!).
