About Nicholas Cordero
Nicholas is a recent graduate of the University of Chicago with passion for science and medicine. He is an experienced tutor whose first job at Kumon in high school led him to continue tutoring during and after college. He is currently applying to medical schools with the goal of matriculating in fall 2025.
Nicholas graduated from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience with Honors, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and completed the pre-medicine concentration in 2021. His research culminated in an Honors Thesis in Neuroscience accepted by the Neuroscience Honors Committee at the University of Chicago. From humble beginnings as an elementary math and English tutor at Kumon in 2016, Nicholas became a college admission test preparation tutor during and after college after scoring in the 99th percentile on both the ACT and SAT and gaining admission to every college where he applied, including Columbia, Duke, Washington University in St. Louis, and of course, the University of Chicago. Nicholas is also qualified to teach high school and college-level science, including biology, chemistry, and physics.
Nicholas's tutoring philosophy is student-centered, where he listens closely to his students to determine their individual starting points, then fills in gaps and expands upon their knowledge. His ideal student is both a good listener and a good speaker, someone who knows how to take direction and use that direction in combination with their own in new yet familiar situations.
Nicholas is an avid hiker, gamer, and cat enthusiast. You can find him walking about Great Falls, Shenandoah, and Rock Creek Park, or playing Pokemon, Super Smash Brothers, or Wild Rift. He returns home to his cat Squish, who magnanimously acknowledges his presence.
