Service Description

Join independent school insider Laura Howell*, an esteemed social coach and educator, for an enriching week dedicated to social learning in preparation for upcoming school visits this fall! An admission's play visit leader, Laura brings her wealth of experience to empower your child, facilitating optimal engagement during visits to our area's private schools for admissions playgroups. Knowing the inside scoop better than anyone we know, Laura will introduce essential social thinking concepts such as adhering to group dynamics, adopting perspectives, and deciphering the nuanced rules and expected behaviors within diverse group settings. This opportunity is uniquely tailored to the individual participants, creating a customized camp experience! In addition, we will play games, get creative with different projects, and enjoy some good old-fashioned summer fun. By participating, children will evolve into adept Social Detectives, equipped with the skills to navigate school visits with confidence and finesse, paving the way for a successful outcome – all while having a fantastic time! *Laura Howell has been an educator for almost 30 years, spending most of her career at Georgetown Day School in Washington, DC. In 2021 she left the classroom and began working with students individually and in small groups to support their social learning as a social coach. When Laura works with students from pre-k through middle school, she strives to make the rules of the complicated social world more explicit to increase their social awareness and ability to positively connect with others. Since leaving the classroom, she has also worked with admissions teams conducting kindergarten and first grade play visits, and she currently runs the after school social groups at GDS. Laura earned her BA in Psychology and Masters in Early Childhood Education from Tufts University. Laura also serves on the advisory council of Resilience Across Borders. When not “socializing” with her students, Laura enjoys taking long walks, doing yoga and visiting family in her hometown, San Diego, California. Please note that this offering is limited to six participants. Similarly, we will not be able to run it with less than four children, so you will be notified in the event of a cancelation and refunded. Thank you for understanding!
